American Red Cross Dutchess County Chapter, in cooperation with the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response has opened 1 shelter in response to the loss of electricity in the county. The shelter is open at:

Based on shelter population appropriate meals and snacks will be served going forward.
The Red Cross will provide cots for sleeping and suggests shelter clients bring their own pillows and blankets. Please remember to bring any needed medications and any items for infants and young children. Red Cross policy does not permit pets in Red Cross shelters, with the exception of service animals.

MRC volunteers will be assisting at the shelter. The United Way’s 2-1-1 Call Center has this information available for callers.

Free to residents: The Sewer department will use their camera to check a sewer line for blockages prior to a resident having to pay a contractor to dig up a line. An informational session will be held Wednesday evening at 7:00pm. This will be an opportunity for the public to review/comment on the Town’s 2010 tentative budget.
Peach Hill Park: Peach Hill Park will be closed for the next three weeks for trail reconstruction work, according to Tom Meyering the Town of Poughkeepsie’s Park Facilities and Programs Director. The work includes the construction of 2200 feet of accessible trail and remediation of agricultural pesticides in the picnic area and overlooks. It is funded by a Federal Recreational Trails Program Grant administered by the New York State Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation. It is anticipated that the park will be reopened by November 13.
Peach Hill Park is a 160 acre Town of Poughkeepsie Park on Edgewood Drive off Salt Point Turnpike. It includes over three miles of hiking trails and the highest point in the Town of Poughkeepsie. Breakfast with Santa
The Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department is hosting "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday December 20, 2008, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am in the Community Room at the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department located at 18 Tucker Drive in Poughkeepsie. There will be breakfast, arts and crafts, face painting, story telling, music and visits with Santa along with pictures. Registration is now open for all children but seating is limited. There is a $5 registration fee per person, payable at the door. Pre-registration is required. The deadline for registering is Thursday December 18. ANNUAL ELECTION OF THE ARLINGTON FIRE DISTRICT
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the Annual Election of the Arlington Fire District will take place on the 9th day of December 2008, at the Arlington Fire District Headquarters, 11 Burnett Boulevard, Poughkeepsie, NY for Wards 3, 4, and 6 and at the Red Oaks Mill Firehouse, 213 Vassar Road, Poughkeepsie, NY for Wards 1, 2, and 5 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. for the purpose of electing One (1) Fire Commissioner for the term of five years commencing on January 1, 2009 and ending on December 31, 2013. All voters registered with the Dutchess County Board of Elections on or before November 17, 2008 shall be eligible to vote.
Candidates for Fire Commissioner for the five year term shall have filed their petitions, with the Secretary of the Arlington Fire District, at the firehouse at 11 Burnett Boulevard no later than twenty days before the election, November 19, 2008 and it must be subscribed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the Arlington Fire District.

Summer Programs Filling Fast!
Summer is just around the corner, and our programs are already filling up. The Town of Poughkeepsie Recreation Department is offering numerous summer programs starting for children at age 5. Don't miss out on some of the new clinics and camps that are being offered.
The Recreation Department is also exploring new and exciting adult programs including a men's wiffle ball league and a co-ed adult kickball league. Make sure you get in on the fun.

Community Day Vendor Applications Available.

The State of New York is mailing applications to Dutchess County residents, the week of 9/17/07, which you need to complete and mail back to the state. You will be receiving a rebate check sometime after they receive the application.If you reside in another county, you should have received your application.
The application will have a special STAR code unique to the individual property. In order to properly complete the application, you will need this code.
Seniors 65 & older should have received their rebate checks by now.
