Why do I make my check payable to a person rather than the Town of Poughkeepsie?

Mr. Patterson, is an elected town official. He is personally responsible to the residents of the Town of Poughkeepsie for ensuring that tax dollars he receives are properly posted and distributed to county, town, and the four school districts.

For Bill Pay check users, Banks and Credit Unions mail tax payments from processing centers. The envelopes lack U.S. postmarks due to banks having either pre sorted first class or bulk mail permits. Please mail early; however, there is no guarantee the tax office will receive payment by the due date.

If the tax office receives payment after the original due date, by law, penalties are assessed.

Please make checks payable to:

Geoff Patterson, Receiver of Taxes - please include your phone number on your check.
