A Pre-Revolutionary Dutch stone farmhouse, was built by Kasparus Westervelt’s cousin Josephus here in the Spackenkill area. An Indian called by the Dutch “Speck” gave the place its name. “Speck zyn Kill” translates to Speck’s creek.
